Geology, volcanism, the history of slavery
This walk takes us to the former magma chamber of the Piton des Neiges: the mouth of a canyon cut by the river through a monolith more than 100 m wide and high, and, at its heart, an incredible cathedral of stone.
An early morning start. The exact time and meeting point are confirmed by message the day before, based on the weather and the season.
An intermediate hike, but exposed to the sun.
A few river crossings: don’t mind getting your shoes wet.
