Sunrise from the summit
Day 1: about 4 h · Day 2: about 5 h
Two days. First we climb to the lodge, at 2,400 m, through a forest of native hardwoods; the next morning, about two hours of climbing by head torch across the volcanic scoria, to reach the highest summit in the Indian Ocean and watch the sun rise over the island.
We meet at the Le Bloc car park. The exact time and meeting point are confirmed by message the day before, based on the weather and the season.
I guide you; you book your night. The lodge is booked directly, with the lodge keeper or through the island’s central booking office, as for Mafate.
You will need courage and to take your time: the second part of the climb is harder, steeper, with many switchbacks along the rampart and many steps.
